I've achieved best results fighting spam using simple MTA-level
"filters". Most spams got blocked after I put strict HELO-
requirements and sender domain chekcs on. After that "filter" I use
DNS-based real time blacklists (spamhaus, spamcop), which drop all
left RFC-compliant spams. I refuse to give up my cpu-cycles (and
other resources) for content based filtering. I get zero spam now,
and zero false positives also. Real time blacklists are OK, but they
are not that real time, some spam trap has first get the spam before
the sending host ends up into blacklist, so few spam gets through
first. But almost every spammer fails to comply RFC-strict HELO-
command. If that's stops working, I'm implementing greylisting, which
will be PITA for spammers to overcome, especially when combined with
rbls. Every accepted spam means profit to spammer, even if it later
filters out by it's content. By refusing to deliver the message at
all, I'm hoping to make spammers feel like they're losing profits.
