Thank you Achipa, People do not complain for free.
They complain because they have an interest. In a couple of cases I have seen a correlation between me refusing to include a third party package XYZ in web2py (because the built-in equivalent is better) and a subsequent "bad press". I know who the people involved are but I will not say. I catalogued bad press in 3 categories: 1) "web2py suck" with not explanation. I usually answer by asking "why?" or do not respond at all. 2) "I reinvented the wheel", which is true except I never claimed I invented anything (at least not in this area). 3) "I advertise web2py". Yes I do. I fail to see why there is something wrong with it and how me talking about web2py is any different than other people talking about competing frameworks. I try to talk about web2py without explicitly listing defects or bugs in other systems and only emphasize why I think web2py is better. There is not much we can do about 1 but there is something we can do about 2,3. More people need to talk about web2py so that I become a minority voice and hopefully personal attacks will give space to more constructive criticism.
