There is nothing stopping you from doing: t=TEXTAREA(_type='text') f=FORM(t) The serialization will still contain the invalid: <textarea type="text"... Arguably, it is the developer responsability (to use valid HTML), which also applies to making sure all INPUT, LABEL, SELECT, TEXTAREA, etc. are contained in block-level or inline elements.
