Well .. ladies & gents ... Finally, the scenario above is a no can do ! .... to use modals with SQLFORM, I had to go with the bootstrap Modal, 1st -) I had to tweak the bootstrap modal a bit because the bootstrap modal has a fixed size, so I played in the CSS to change its default settings 2nd -) I had to scrap the solidform plugin and went with my own custom form for the needed form, which ended up looking better in the modal window ...
all the data now makes it to the intended tables ... ( well .. almost ! ) ... EXCEPT THE IMAGE FILE ! ... ( outside of the modals .. all works well ! .. including the image file ! ) there is only the image that does not make it to the table !!! ... and this is causing me a serious headache ! ... How can all the data get recorded in the table but except for the image file !! ... is it related to specific problems with modals & upload fields ??? ... does anyone know ?? or has anyone encounters a similar problem ?? If so .... please advise ! How to make an upload field of a form work from a modal window that contains the form ??? ... --
