do you mean to cd to web2py folder?  yes, I did that.  Here is the error

alex@alex-desktop ~/web2py $ python2.6 web2py.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "web2py.py", line 18, in <module>
    import gluon.widget
ImportError: No module named gluon.widget
