First thank you for your response :) !. 
In app.yaml I have: appstats:on
Regarding appengine_config.py, I don't have it!... the only one is 
appengine_config.example.py that contains:
def webapp_add_wsgi_middleware(app):
    from google.appengine.ext.appstats import recording
    app = recording.appstats_wsgi_middleware(app)
    return app
I think this can be the problem?.
