I am using MAC and I ran into the same problem. 

- I clicked the upgrade button, and it seemed to be hanged, and restarting 
the server would fail.
- Then downloaded the new binary and overwrote the existing app. But, it 
failed also. 

It just says "web2py error" on the screen.
