Well the easiest way is to just do like appadmin does and defer that job to
admin which already does it.
Something like this in your models:
import gluon.fileutils
if (request.application == 'admin' and not session.authorized) or \
(request.application != 'admin' and not
gluon.fileutils.check_credentials(request)):
redirect(URL('admin', 'default', 'index',
vars=dict(send=URL(args=request.args, vars=request.vars))))
I basically just copied this from appadmin.
