Javascript code in the iframe shouldn't make changes in the top frame. It's possible if the iframe is in the same domain, my guess is that you aren't referring to the parent window so it's looking for the place to put the ajax call result inside the iframe, but you shouldn't. Why are you using iframe if this is all controlled by you?
