see anything wrong with "belongs" and IS_IN_DB off the top of your head,
with this syntax?
db.Role.roleType.requires = IS_IN_DB(db, db.RoleType.id.belongs(2, 3, 5, 7,
8, 9, 10, 17, 18, 19), '%(roleType)s',zero=T('choose one'))
