with your new join, the fields are searchable, this search works on my
version:
l2_categories.name = "Jazz"
l1_categories.name = "Music"
Maybe fields need to be explicitly identified in grid command:
grid = SQLFORM.grid(query, fields = [db.l1_categories.name, db.
l1_categories.id, db.l2_categories.name, db.l2_categories.id])
They don't have to be displayed, but have to be there in the background in
order to sort, etc.
