I don't see anything like that happening. Not every proposed UX improvement is an instance of bikeshedding. After a quick perusal of some other sites, I can't find any that do it like the navbar -- so it's both non-intuitive (two login links and not obvious how to sign up) and non-standard. No reason to avoid a simple and obvious improvement here.
