The best approach is to run web2py from source and install as you would install any other Python module. However, if you need to distribute the module along with your app, you can also just put it in the app's /modules folder. Finally, you could also stick it in the /web2py/site-packages folder (this is a useful option if you are running the web2py binary, as it has its own Python interpreter, so you cannot install and use system wide Python modules as you would when running web2py from source).
