I did the following and it works. Is there anything which I am losing?
auth = Auth(db)
auth.settings.extra_fields['auth_user']= [Field('username', 
requires=[IS_NOT_EMPTY(), IS_LENGTH(minsize=6, maxsize=15)], unique=True)]
auth.define_tables(username=False, signature=False)
custom_auth_table=db[auth.settings.table_user_name]
custom_auth_table.email.readable=False
custom_auth_table.email.writable=False
