Thanks for your reply, renaming the application did not solve the problem.
However,
having a closer look at my code, I found that in:
upload=URL('dbmodel', 'static', 'uploads', folder, args=request.vars.image))
'static', 'uploads' should be 'static/uploads'
I am sorry for bothering you with something this stupid :-(
