I am not sure, but I think that the problem has the same root as in the case of streaming: when lambda is invoked db is already wasted/rotten. So you can try to make a module with function that will fetch the rows from current.db and returns they. Then you can import this module in the controller and pass module.function to cache.ram. Also I think that the best place for static images in the static folder, not in the db.
