t2 was a proof of concept. Almost everything that was in t2 is not in web2py core (from gluon.tools import *). The syntax is a little different by much more powerful. In the manual this is covered in the chapters on Crud, Auth and Service.
t3 was built on t2 so it is deprecated to in favor of t4 which is being built and you can find some recent posts about it.
