Thanks Thadeus. Step by step procedure: 1) After cloning, start web2py 2) Do a "pack all" on the welcome app 3) The resulting "welcome.w2p" file will be created under the "deposit" folder but it has to be moved to its parent folder, otherwise the "create new application" will still not work.
