I just spent ages playing around with Pengoworks, but it's even better if this can be built into Web2py without any dependencies.

I suppose in that case, the feature will automatically have to be disabled if JS not available? IS_IN_DB will have to function every time! Problem: After making selection (FireFox 3.5), the dropdown list doesn't close up.
