I have tried to build and install from source but I get another error.

>python setup.py build
running build
running build_ext
building 'cx_Oracle' extension
error: Unable to find vcvarsall.bat

You said "...installing it into your python's site-packages.". I have only installed the cx_Oracle binary but if I look in 'C:\Python26\Lib\site-packages' it appears to have already been installed as the cx_Oracle.pyd exists here. Just for a wild shot I copied this file to the ~\web2py\site-packages but that made no difference.

What am I doing wrong or missing?

I think that it means to run the source version of cx_oracle not the
binary version. This would entail downloading the source of cx_Oracle
and installing it into your python's site-packages.

I read that I need to run web2py from the cx_oracle source. I'm not
sure how to 'run from source'. Maybe there is someone that could point
me in the right direction.
