The problem is that you are using the the user() action and that
returns form=auth() and that expects a certain convention for args(0).
Do not use user(). Make your own action
def combinedLogin(): return dict()
and in default/conbinedLogin.html you put
{{=auth.login()}}
{{=auth.register()}}
