You can also use the html5 normalize welcome
http://web2pytesting.appspot.com/static/welcome.zip

You only have to edit view/default/index.html

and change:

left_sidebar_enabled = True
right_sidebar_enabled = False

and here put some content:

{{block left_sidebar}}
        <div id="left_sidebar" {{=XML(left_sidebar_style)}} >
        <div style="padding: 4px;">
                here content of sidebar left
        </div>
        </div><!-- left_sidebar -->
{{end}}

Both sidebars
