I'm wary of putting stuff on pip/pypi. Once you put stuff there, you really need to be committed to keeping it updated or else things get confusing.
I found the Mac package simple to download from web2py.com, double click the app and you're up and running. And developers really should be getting Web2py from version control. It's very easy and enables you to easily roll forwards and backwards.
