What you say let me think that you could be interrested by Datatables grid
view javascript plugins... Bruno Rocha has make a web2py Plugin :
PowerTable with it you can have 2 tables embeded into the same grid if I
remember. So you can display resume row and when expend row you have the
other table contain. It is maybe something you would have...
