Far from causing divergent forks and fragmentation, Mike is proposing a
way to avoid each of the concerns you listed. I really don't care what
version control system gets used, but I do care when a reasonable
suggestions gets shot down so lightly.
In all fairness, if you "don't understand how git-svn can possibly be
better than a branch in the same SVN repository", Mike is probably a
more authoritative figure on the subject and I hope he isn't discouraged
by you.
