I also do not like the selection model but I am unsure about your suggestion. If we use the visual model for selection, finding the order of the content would get tricky (because the selected content can also be out of order, or overlapping). Generating the markup for the clipboard would likely become impossible. Has anyone looked into why selections look much better on Mozilla's engine?
