Been a while since I had to manually intervene, but even when it is fixed automatically, the new checkout takes ages (because the automatic fix is to rm -rf the whole source tree). That said, we don't need to change the main repository to have bots use git - we can use a git mirror for most bot needs without changing the main repository.
