The opengl (libgstopengl.so) plugin of GStreamer (from the *-bad plugin collection) is required when enabling the USE_GSTREAMER_GL option of CMake. USE_GSTREAMER_GL was configured by default to off, but it seems recently we changed that in https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=173406 My understanding is that with USE_GSTREAMER_GL WebKit/GStreamer can upload the video rendered directly to the GPU, therefore it avoids extra memory copies and increases the performance. This is specially interesting on some embedded platforms where the video is rendered by specialized hardware (VPU) with direct access to the GPU memory.
