Hi Chinmaya I'm not a Qt Multimedia expert - maybe someone else on the list or on qt-interest would have a better idea. Yes, GStreamer is the backend for Linux and it's possible to implement your own backends for QtMultimedia or Phonon.

Before trying the HTML5 video tag, I'd make sure that QtMultimedia is built and the tests/examples for it work.
