I managed to get QtWebKit 2.3 to build against Qt 4.8.3 on Mountain
Lion, but it was a challenge. I built it using the
unsupported/macx-clang mkspec because macx-g++ was failing, and even
then I had to fix a lot of little things that clang doesn't swallow
quite right.
