When I have a get link that makes an ajax call and there is a delay in updating the display, users often will click on the link again or another link, get an error and then get confused; particularly when we have a dialog up. Is there a cheap ajax way to suspend click interpretation during ajax updates until we get a response? The disabling of other buttons can get you into trouble when there are bugs because you can't then get rid of, say, a dialog if there was a submit error due to a double click.
I was thinking of simply throwing up a big transparent div that intercepts the clicks until the ajax completes or some time out is hit. Also has anyone come up with a principled way to handle: 1) Processing URL parameters for friendly URLs 2) Dealing with AJAX back button history using the hash technique? I may do some work on some or all of these in a few weeks but didn't want to duplicate effort.
