Title: Re: debug-logs not getting output
Eric,

I won’t claim to be very proficient at cmd line in OS X, but I did use the GetInfo from the Finder to identify the privileges of the folder in question and I set it to allow everyone read/write.  I don’t know how to change to 777 however.

I used the Activity Monitor utility to identify all running processes and could see that ‘appserver’ is running Java.  Even if I change the permissions of the folder to appserver as the owner I still get no output.  Is there a running ‘console’ in JavaMonitor that I can see output from WebObjects apps, or are log files the only way to see this?  The logs are very important for long-term support of the app.

What could be wrong in the config?  Thanks again!

I would recommend that you temporarily (VERY TEMPORARILY) set the permission for the created folder to 777. This will immediately tell you if it's a permission problem or not. Then immediately change it back to it's original permission. If WO was able to write into that folder after you 777 it, then you will immediately know it was a permissions problem and can change the permission accordingly. If you look at the log file that was generated by WO, you will see what user and group WO is running under. If it WO still won't log the errors, it's more than likely a config problem.

It ‘looks’ to be ok.  On one of the servers that logging works fine the permissions seem to be identically formatted as they are with this machine.  Would you recommend running FixPermissions on the questionable machine?

When you tried creating a folder on the desktop and writing the logs into the folder, did you make sure the permissions were set so that WO could write into that folder? I've had permission problems in the past that stopped WO from logging errors.

Dear List,

I’ve enabled ‘Debugging’ and set a path of ‘/Users/Admin/Desktop’ as an output path (I’ve also tried adding ‘/FolderName’ to the desktop as well) yet no logs are being written out.
I’m running OSX ver. 10.3.8.  I have an almost identical deploy on another OSX Server and it outputs logs just fine.  Is there a 3rd setting I’m missing somewhere to enable outputting?

  Thanks for any advice,
