Miguel / Aurelien, Thanks for the info. So it seems it should be possible to get WO running on EC2...

Good point... this is possible since Amazon now offers 'elastic' IPs which are kind of static. > About Amazon itself, I would think twice before going forward with it. > Many "web 2.0" companies that installed their apps on Amazon (mostly because > of the hype, not because any real technical reasons) went back to > "traditional" hosting because they had huge problems Yes, it has it problems, but I think that 'cloud' computing will become increasingly popular, and is a natural extension of why many people like to use a VPS rather than managing a dedicated server. Interestingly, quite a few Ruby'on'Rails shops have appeared, offering high availability solutions, some based on Amazon's web services. http://www.heroku.com http://www.morphexchange.com/ http://www.engineyard.com http://www.rightscale.com/m/ For my project, I can use either WO or RoR for the web app development, so anytime there is a service provider who can do the heavy lifting, it's quite appealing and could sway me in choosing RoR over WO (even though I'm familiar with Java, use Cocoa daily and love Apple tech, and understand that WO is more mature and is in many ways the better framework). I won't actually write the web app myself, but most definitely want to make sure I know what's going on. BTW: Want to boost your beer budget? If anybody has time and is interested in setting up a basic WO deployment on EC2 (just use a basic sample app), to experiment with scaling and how the pieces fit together, e.g. DB, storage, etc. please get in touch with me offline.
