We've been running apps on Amazon Linux for over a year, and it's working very
well. I would use Amazon Linux (as opposed to other Linux variants that they
offer) on EC2 unless you have a compelling reason not to. Obviously it's
constructed specifically for working with EC2, it installs in a very minimalist
configuration, Amazon hosts package repositories, and provides security updates.
