Pierre,

I'm missing something (besides why you dislike Eclipse ;-).

Why do we need the flat file adaptor? EOAccess already has all that is needed to create, read, modify, and write EOModel files. I recently finished some code that took a monstrous XML schema and generated four models (> 1,000 entities) from it.

Hi Mike,

I would prefer a stand alone EOModeler. I have no use for an Eclipse tool and I do not like the idea of integration with XCode. I would be interested in contributing to a standalone tool specially if we build a pure Java one.

I have been playing with a few ideas. If we resurrect the flat file adaptor I think we could use EOF to model our model. The tuff part is the UI but it can be managed.

I've been contemplating this also ... Judging from my inbox, though, the demand for an Eclipse WO Builder seems to be higher than an Eclipse EOModeler, though I'd personally prefer a nice EOModeler more.

I would also prefer an Eclipse plugin or (working) Xcode plugin or a (working) standalone app (Cayenne modeler variant?). I was just thinking of something that I could download or hack out in a short time until the Xcode plugin gets finished.

I like the idea of an alternative EOModel editor. I'm not sure if a web UI would be the best user experience - I agree with the suggestion of an eclipse plug-in.

However, if you're interested in the idea of a web-based editor - have a look at this example of a web-based interface for designing a database schema:

While engaging EOModeler in battle last night over the spoils of some cross model inheritance and prototypes, I started to wonder how hard it would be to make an alternative tool. Other than emacs, I mean. Web based would be easiest, as far as creating the UI. Then I sort of recalled seeing this done before. Does this ring a bell with anyone? I may be thinking of Anjo Krank's DevStudio which, IIRC, allows inspection but not editing.

Cheers,
Chuck
