Hi Helge,
I agree, it's very difficult to release software with no bugs. What
I was referring to were long-standing bugs that have not been fixed
over several releases. It just made me wonder if they were actually
aware of them. I am referring here to WebObjects builder
specifically. I think the whole development suite is great and I
hope no one thought I was slating it. I appreciate as much as the
next person all the work that goes into releasing a new version of
the suite. I didn't suggest the world was perfect, nor any given
tool, but it is of course important to rectify bugs, not ignore them.
So, thanks Apple for making an effort to update the tools and I'll
certainly have a look at the logged bugs (now that I know where they
are) to see if any of the ones I have found have not been reported.
Kind regards
David.

Hi Lachlan, hi David!
I just wanted to make a point here mentioning that I really
appreciate that
Apple is doing somthing in improving the tools. Sure nothing is
perfect. The
world is not perfect... never. I mean, yeah, improvement is
necessary and a
great thing.
Perhaps i was a little fast with my statement to praise the
engineering team
at Apple for the improvements. Sorry for that one. Perhaps I just
got used
to the small inconveniences the tools have and always had. Even
under Mac OS
X Server 1.2 WebObjects had some flaws, that's life.
But it seems as if I am claimig a lonesome position here. Nothing
is ever as
bad as it seems. Thats my point of view.

Sure. But lots of new ones have arisen with the latest release...
I think that *some* of the described behaviours of WebObjects
Builder are,
well.. you get used to them and there will always be *some* things
which can
be improved. It's not that it damages something or breaks
something. It is
just some "inconvenience" and not a "bug" I would say.
No,
- if bindings do not stick when creating a new key that's a bug.
- if WebObjects builder opens a sheet Xcode should not hang when
attemping to create a new file
- <snips list of many interface bugs with WebObjects Builder 5.3.1>
I have not tried the 5.3.1 in conjunction with xCode 2.2, but the
Ahh - well then you've not been able to appreciate the reason for the
noise on the list ;-)
When you have upgraded you'll see what we mean.
Though the new WebObjects Builder's interface is buggy it shows a lot
of promise and I for one am glad that there's been an update to it
after all this time - and look forward even more to when the
interface bugs are ironed out. i.e., 5.3.1 is worse in various ways
to the previous 5.2.4 builder - but it won't trash your files, just
cause a little frustration with having to reapply bindings, figure
out which side of a WOString to click so that the inspector
recognises that you've selected something and so on... you get used
to it but it needs fixing.
WOBuilder-"inconveniences" seem far less important than the
EOModel.plugin
for xCode if using xCode for this is the path of the future.
Both need work - but seeing as you spend more time in WebObjects
Builder than EOModeler (once you've got your eos modelled) then,
well, you know, you need a tool that isn't quite so sensitive ;-)
with regards,
