I notice the sun tool says:

so I bet it won't work for Apple JVMs. It didn't appear that Apple had a JVM release that met the dates shown on the sun page. Maybe we are stuck?

Well, the Java zone info database is in /System/Library/Frameworks/ JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/Home/lib/zi. This looks very similar to the Mac OS X zone info database in /usr/share/zoneinfo which was produced by the zone info compiler, zic, from the Olson TimeZoneInfo database. I would be surprised if there isn't a zone info compiler for Java that could be used to build your own Java zone info database, but I haven't looked for it. I think doing so would be worth a little effort.

Aloha,
