I have now added a small example app to the source repository. It works for me, YMMV. You will need the groovy-eclipse plugin, and WOGroovy framework installed for it to compile and run. I haven't made any source tarballs, so for now just use subversion.

The Main component is written in groovy, but the rest is still regular java. You can mix and match both groovy and java code as you see fit, to the JVM they both look the same, just avoid cyclic dependancies or the compilers won't know what to do.

Ok, I am dumping the code into a repository now [ http:// code.google.com/p/wogroovy/ ]. There is no documentation (yet). I will probably do up some contrived examples as I get time. Have fun, don't hurt yourselves ;)

I have been playing with groovy a little bit over the last few days and I am surprised that I haven't seen much talk of using it with webobjects.

I found an old (abandoned?) project on sourceforge.jp (WOGroovy) that I have reworked and updated to use the latest revision of groovy and to function a little differently (better?). Now instead of messing with classloader order it now implements a simple MetaClass loader that will preload a collection of WebObjects & WOnder functionality into the groovy MetaClassRegistry for various base classes (I'm not sure if this is the best approach, but so far it works the way I want it to). The groovy eclipse plugin isn't without it's quirks at the moment, but it is evolving, and everything plays nice with WOLips thus far so things are looking very promising.

When you combine the dynamic typing, closures, autoboxing and support for categories it stacks up to be a great companion to the webobjects way of doing things. Was someone saying they missed categories recently?

If anyone is interested in playing with this, I can probably put it online somewhere. (It's in a constant state of flux at the moment as I am learning to use groovy at the same time).
