Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to do anything - so no way to
tell... I also tried the other format:
-EOAdaptorUseBindVariables false
which didn't work either.

Have you tried adding the launch argument "-
DEOAdaptorUseBindVariables=false"? EOSQLExpression's
useBindVariables() JavaDoc suggests that this should work.
