I'm stumped too, but I am not too concerned if I have to go with the
link beside each item. It is not ideal, but it's not the end of the
world either.

Not quite. There are no batch objects. The batches are determined by
the batch number of the item and the first item in a batch compares
the previous batch number with the current batch number.
