For formatter handling, you might like to check out the javadoc for...
java.text.Format
...and then the "LEDataQuantityFormat" in my "lejstuff" library. You
can hook these guys up to the "formatter" binding on something like
the WOString element and it will transform the string data to/from
objects.
For handling of dates/times, I have my own formatters which you may
like to read over in the PDF;
