I may be missing something here, can't you already do this using a
custom data type class?
Definitely -- you can write your own cover methods over integer types,
but it's a lot more tedious than what 5.4 offers you. In 5.3 you'd
need to cover every attribute yourself (though you could probably do
some cleverness with eogenerator templates based on flags in
userInfo). 5.4 just provides a cleaner way to do this same thing.
