First forgive my ignorance as I am very new to this list as well as the technology that drives it.
I am a electrical engineer with some 28 years of experience who has always strived to apply the most applicable, effective and best-fit technologies to solve problems. The thread on "bringing back the dev tools" struck a cord since I am struggling with the learning curve of the Java/Web/Eclipse/Webobjects combo. I have come to realize that that there is tremendous value in being able to turn data into information, into knowledge and finally into action. This process can create immeasurable amounts of wealth. This forms the basis of my latest project. Unfortunately I no longer have the patience, skill or number of brain cells required to accomplish this task with the currently available tool sets in a reasonable amount of time. My work has lead me to Webobjects as being a best-of-breed technology to accomplish my goal. My concern now is how do I deliver. I need a truly intuitive IDE which does this. Eclipse with all its excellence and extensibility does not provide we the "application experts" with the ability to turn data into wealth efficiently. As a result my search has led me to the latest version of Netbeans. This seems to be the path that Webobjects was destined to follow based on the original Apple spirit of making cutting edge technology productive for the end user. My question: Is there a way of integrating the functionality of Webobjects, Netbeans and any other applicable third party product to provide a solution? PS. My original Mac Plus still works and whenever I turn it on, it sits there with a smiling face asking for a startup disk. No that's technology.
