One last post. I couldn't figure out what had changed on my system to
cause the problems so I reinstalled on an external drive, then
migrated everything from the internal drive over. Lo and behold,
Eclipse can run/debug projects again.
There are some updates waiting in Software Update queue, so once I
get everything on the new system backed up I'll be able to
incrementally backup and update to pinpoint whether the Java update
does change something on the new MBP to bork Eclipse.

Doing general googling and browsing around, it looks like the last
Java update and/or Security Update has had an impact on Eclipse
installs for some plugins. Can't find anything specific, and
certainly no fixes.
