Hi Saker,

Please keep replies on the list so everyone can benefit.

I embed the WebObjects frameworks in my project directly so I don't actually need to install WebObjects on the windows machine at all. My .war file has everything in it.

The WOServletAdapter not available is a tricky one to diagnose as several things can cause it.

A lot of the Wiki Tutorials are out of date because the Tools are evolving so fast. Servlet deployment is something that doesn't get updated very often because there's not a lot of people out there doing it.

Probably the best way to start is to get a simple HelloWorld app running on Tomcat before you try to migrate your existing application to WOLips/Tomcat.

Do you have the most recent version of Eclipse (3.4.1) and WOLips (Nightly) now? If not get those, then start Eclipse and create a new WebObjects Application Project.

Once you have the new project created, you can then right-click on the project and select "Properties". Click on the WOLips Deployment item and select "Servlet Deployment" and "Autogenerate web.xml"

You should then be able to right-click again on the project, select "WOLips Ant Tools" and select Install.

This should create a .war file for you that you can then drop into Tomcat/webapps and see if it launches for you. The URL that you would use would be:

http://your.server.com:8080/YourApplicationName/WebObjects/

That should load the "Main" component for you.

Or give you a WOServletAdapter not available error...

Try that and then we'll move forward from there.

Dear David,

Thanks for the great suggestion. As my only requirement is that the deployment environment must be Windows, developing on WOLips/Mac should be just fine. I will follow the available instructions to build on WOLips/Mac.

On the issue of Windows deployment, I could really use your guidance. Just recently, I tried deploying my application to Win/ Tomcat but it gave me a WOServletAdapter not available error. OSX/ Tomcat/.war is how I normally deploy on OSX, so this was quite frustrating. The instructions on objectstyle.org for Windows deployment of an OSX/WO app assume a CD install of WinWO 5.2, which I don't have. Since you successfully build on OSX/WOLips and deploy to Win/Tomcat, do you have a set of instructions to assist in the process?

Ideally, I would love to do as you suggest above, i.e. develop on OSX and deploy on Win, and any guidance you can provide there would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,
Saker Ghani

Most users on the list use WOLips running on Mac, so you are going to get the most accurate help if you are running a similar setup. Not that WOLips doesn't work on Windows, the WOLips developers run on Mac so you can expect WOLips to be much more stable on Mac.

I develop on Mac and deploy to Tomcat on Windows and it works just fine (usually...:-).

Hello WebDeploy Masters:

I have a situation where I need to port a OSX/WO application to Windows. I'm thinking now may be a good time to move to WOLips. I've downloaded the latest Eclipse toolset and have installed WOLips. Is there any good set of instructions that can help a newbie like myself to:
Port my OSX/XCode application to Win/Eclipse/WOLips
Build a .war from within Win/Eclipse/WOLips for deployment in Tomcat
Also, assuming #2 is resolved, will my existing 5.3.3 license work in the Win/Tomcat deployment?

Advance apologies for the large number of questions. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
SGhani
