What are the rules? Are you sure, that they actually fire? You can
switch on rule firing debugging by (a bit more complicate but it helps
with other stuff, too):
1. Add a ERD2WDebugFlags to your page wrapper:

DebugFlags : ERD2WDebugFlags {
}
2. Click on the log4j link
3. switch on debugging for rule firing:
er.directtoweb.rules.ERD2WTraceRuleFiringEnabled = Debug
