Hrm, sounds to me like the new component being created contains at least one component action! That would explain why your call to pageWithName has the side effect of creating a session. You should check the component definition and make sure that it contains only direct actions. It's possible to track down the offending element from jdb with a break point on WOSession creation however the backtraces are typically generic and it's hard to determine exactly which element is of interest.
