I'm hoping that Chuck really hates git so we can get into for about 20 posts or so every couple weeks. :-)

Unfortunately for you, I rather admire git. Painless branching and merging is something that I can readily perceive the value of. It is a large step forward in revision control, unlike the much hyped cvs -> svn. I think it is very suitable for managing code. These are still early days for git and there remains much to be done in terms of making it easier to use and comprehend. So I am much less sure, at least in its present state, that it is suitable for general use (e.g. project managers, tech writers, QA, etc. etc.). I have not started using it yet, but have been considering it as an adjunct to svn so that I could have multiple local branches (test, new design, bug fix) and then commit them into svn when I am ready.

Sorry to disappoint. :-P

Doggonit. There's no entertainment value in that at all. :-)

The Eclipse plugin has gained a lot of maturity since I first started using it. I haven't used the other gui tools John mentioned - I use the command line to do my branching/merging usually but I do all my committing/resetting/adding within Eclipse. I do use the branching constantly - it kicks ass.
