My local Apple support engineer was not very helpful either:

When it says "is not supported" that means just that. WO shouldn't be used on 10.6... You can try at your own risk, but things like software updates and such aren't going to be tested against breaking it. The blurb about being able to use 10.6 to remotely manage a 10.4 or 10.5 server implies that keeping one of those around is the intended configuration.

So I have to leave my Intel server at 10.5 to run WO according to him. That sounds to me like WO is being end-of-lifed from Apple's point of view?

I found the Migration Guide:

- WebObjects is not supported by Mac OS X Server v10.6. However, Mac OS X Server v10.6 can remotely manage a Mac OS X Server v10.4 or later that is running WebObjects. For more information, see“WebObjects” on page 21.

Page 21:

WebObjects
Mac OS X Server v10.6 does not support WebObjects. After the upgrade to Mac OS X Sever v10.6, your WebObjects applications are placed in the /Library/WebObjects/ folder and your WebObjects frameworks are placed in the /Library/Frameworks/ folder.

It's not clear to me if I can install WO 5.4.3 back on the server when I am done with the upgrade.

However, the Snow Leopard Server Web Services docs say:

What’s New in Web Service
Web service in Mac OS X v10.6 offers major enhancements in these key areas: - Apache Modules: mod_python and mod_xsendfile improve web-based application support and scripting.
- WebObjects: Support for WebObjects is removed with Mac OS X v10.6.

And that's the only reference to WebObjects.

Is there a document describing how should I upgrade my 10.5 server to 10.6 and keep my WebObjects deployment environment?

I guess there was never a 5.4.3 API. Will the new 5.5.x be "non- legacy"?

Note: The Snow Leopard Server Admin Tools "still" have the WO "Service" plugin. It is actually better than 10.5, since there is a new "Monitor" section with a log for "WebObjects Service" and "Monitor".

I think *really soon* is a safe bet though... Notice the URL on the latest API docs lately?
