i also use single table all the time ... it's easy and predicable.
vertical is just asking for complications. you can make vertical work,
but it's just trickier.

My real world experience is with vertical inheritance and I
struggled with performance and at times crazy difficult to debug
exceptions. Of course, that was 4.5 days which is why I'm asking
after the current state of affairs.
This project is actually fairly well suited to single table
inheritance. Thanks for the vote of confidence.
